Kungsholmen is primarily a residential island, where you’ll have a great opportunity to mix with the locals. Lots of lively restaurants, bars, and cafés are found here, especially along Hantverkargatan and Fleminggatan. Kungsholmen is home to the most prominent building of the Stockholm skyline, the City Hall. If you get the chance, don’t miss climbing the tower to be amazed by the incredible view.

The walk along the tree-lined quay on Norrmälarstrand offers unparalleled views of Södermalm and boats sailing on the lake. If you continue past the City Hall you can actually stroll around the whole island along the water. It’s a popular track for locals and is often either finished or started with a brunch in one of the many cafés in the area.

During summer, there are a couple of nice places to go for a swim on the island, for instance in the big green area of Rålambshovsparken. For a truly exotic experience, we recommend a swim from the rocks of Fredhällsbadet. (Text: Visitstockholm.com)

AG is the chemical symbol for silver and the name stems from the fact that this trendy and popular industrial-chic restaurant on Kungsholmen is set in an old silver factory. Despite its somewhat off-beat location and the fierce competition, AG immediately became a meeting place that attracted ’everyone’ and a major topic of conversation when it opened its doors in 2011. Specialising in meat, which is tenderized on site in a large fridge that can be inspected as you take your seats.

Stockholm City Hall, with its spire featuring the golden Three Crowns, is one of the most famous silhouettes in Stockholm. It is one of the country’s leading examples of national romanticism in architecture. The City Hall was designed by architect Ragnar Östberg is built from eight million bricks. The 106-meter tall tower has three crowns, which is the Swedish national coat of arms, at its apex. Behind the magnificent facades are offices and session halls for politicians and officials, as well as splendid assembly rooms and unique works of art. Stockholm’s municipal council meets in Rådssalen, the Council Chamber.

The great Nobel banquet is also held at City Hall. After dinner in Blå Hallen, the Blue Hall, Nobel Prize laureates, royalties, and guests dance in Gyllene Salen, the Golden Hall, with its 18 million gold mosaic tiles.

The City Hall shop features specially designed souvenirs and presents that commemorate City Hall and Stockholm. The City Hall is open to the public through guided tours only. Guided tours are held daily in Swedish and English at certain hours and can be canceled with short notice due to events. The tower is open during the summer months (May to September). During the same period, you can also climb up inside the tower and enjoy a fantastic view of the city. (Text: Visitstockholm.com)

At the cozy and quality-conscious bistro Agnes, guests quickly feel a sense of community. Come for a beer in the bar or a family dinner, or spend an evening at the restaurant. The interior decor, menu and wine list encourage flexibility when it comes to options for combining small and large plates – have a seat at a community table or choose a calmer alternative in the bar. The menu spans a broad spectrum of offerings: choose from small plates like oysters, charcuterie, and cheese, or enjoy the main course shared among friends. (Text: Visitstockholm.com)

Our proud history

Sturehof ’s history spans over a century. It all started in 1897, when Ernst Marcus opened the German-style beer hall, Malta. In 1905, Marcus changed the name to Sturehof and the Marcus family ran the restaurant until 1976. Sturehof ’s current owners have drawn great inspiration from this era in terms of interior design, food, ambiance and service.

The inauguration of Kungsgatan in 1911 was the start of Stockholm’s transformation into a big city. Stureplan became a key meeting point for affluent Stockholmers. Thanks to the Marcus brothers’ extensive travel and experience in working abroad, Sturehof was transformed into Stockholm’s first seafood restaurant. A combination of courage and innovative ideas lay behind the success of Marcus’ new concept. Fresh seafood was sourced from Marcus’ relatives living on the island of Möja in the Stockholm archipelago and on the west coast of Sweden.
